Recorded at The Headlands Center For The Arts, California. Violin by Tony Cross.
Jefre Cantu-Ledesma (The Alps, Tarentel, Isidore Ducasse, Portraits) delivers here a darkly beautiful and plaintive piece built of violin and tape loops. The effect is mesmeric, a composition that continually suggests motion. And yet the closer you observe the more difficult it is to tell if it’s moving at all – like watching a field blanketed in mist. Requiem has a crepuscular quality, but it’s hard to tell in the half–light if the piece is shifting toward light or darkness.
Infinite Greyscale Records starts with two very limited edition 10” vinyl art pieces by celebrated musicians Gabriel Saloman and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. Both are single sided records, pressed on cherry-red (Gabriel Saloman) and canary-yellow (Jefre Cantu-Ledesma) vinyl respectively. Each record has a screen-printed b-side by master screen-printer, Ulrich Schmidt-Novak.
All the artwork was handmade by artists Paul McDevitt & Cornelius Quabeck using a Risograph printer in combination with spray paint. Both records feature a long-form piece of music as a singular statement from each musician. Each release is a numbered edition of 300 and will not be repressed. It comes with a photograph, insert, and download code. Both records were mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin.

As usual, Kirby manipulates various interwar records to fit a cavalcade of emotional states: blissful (B1, E8), tragic (D2, D5), frantic (E1, E6), and just plain horrifying (F3, G1, H1, K1). gjoe52

"The paradox of an infinite string of unique moments informing the repetitive nature of being. The Unification of Inner and Outer Life as the last track’s title suggests? That’s probably impossible. But this album might help getting closer to that goal. Music triggering the weight and scale of the human experience."
