Musically Proper I wouldn't go with Shoegaze. This triggers chill wave or vaporwave for me but without the kitsch and heavy synthesizer use. The found sound and tape reel stuff reminds me a bit of some work from a few of my other favorite experimenters/outsiders like Willis Earl Beal and Dirty Beaches. Nic Brown Although Jefre Cantu-Ledesma's addictive "A Year With 13 Moons" album released in 2015 was unabashedly experimental it was never unlistenable. A mixture of guitar feedback, both sculpted and random, dissonant electronics and unobtrusive percussion, its follow-up, the lazy billowing noise trails of "In Summer" couldn't be more different. Where "... 13 Moons" was, in the main, a collection of short blasts whose sequencing was part of what made the album gel, "In Summer" is a song-orientated record that I hope is the prelude to a similarly constructed album. No doubt the saddos who think music must be categorised to earn its place in the world will sticker. every copy of "In Summer" they can find with the word "Shoegaze" because it contains the odds snatch of guitar that reminds them of My Bloody Valentine. Instead, why not just celebrate the release of a new Jefre Cantu-Ledesma EP. I don't care if he's gazing at his shoes or a 19th century silver plated cheese grater: it's wonderful. Favorite track: In Summer.
